Though he himself may not be aware of it, Hunter Moss has had a tremendous influence on thousands of other players. Like D'Amico, Petersen, Swan, Angelica and other great performers, his quintessential solo has been copied by countless buglers and trumpeters over the past 30 years. That solo, of course, was his rendition of "Georgia" for Spirit of Atlanta.
Hunter was Jim Ott's "go-to guy" for that and many other features. As a music judge, I can recall countless other renditions inspired by that performance, some very fine but none better. Hunter's DNA is all over that tune whenever it's played on the field, no matter who is performing.
During his time with Spirit, he was honored with numerous awards, "Best Performer" and "Horn Player of the Year" among those. Hunter has won several individual medals in both DCI and DCA competition. He has taught bugling skills in both leagues, most recently with Spirit of JSU and the Atlanta CorpsVets, where he has been featured soloist for more than 10 years.
