GENERAL RULES AND PHILOSOPHY
- Participation is open,
regardless of affiliation.
- Judges will be looking for the
technical ability in each performance although effectiveness
will be considered.
- Rules will be used to assure a
fair competition, but they will be interpreted to allow
competitors artistic freedom.
- One point will be assessed for
every rule infraction.
- Scheduling will be done allowing
for the best possible entertainment with consideration given to
competitors entered in multiple categories.
- Warm-ups will be permitted ONLY
in designated areas.
- In order to be eligible for an
I& E medal, there must be more than one (1) entry in a category.
If there is only one (1) entry in a given category, the
contestant or ensemble may perform as an exhibition as long as
he/she agrees to the rules for the general category.
- All Entry Forms and Fees must be
received 10 days prior to the competition in order to
participate in the I & E. NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED.
BRASS INDIVIDUALS
- Any individual bugle or brass
instrument will be judged.
- A contestant may play only one
horn during the performance.
- The time limit is 1:30 minutes
minimum to 3:00 minutes maximum.
- There will be a one (1) point
penalty for each minute over or under the
time limit.
- Time starts with the first note
and ends with the last note.
- Music scores DO NOT need to be
presented to the judges.
BRASS DUETS
- A duet is defined as two (2)
participants.
- Each participant may play only
one horn during the performance.
- Any combinations of the two (2)
approved horns may be used.
- The time limit is 1:30 minutes
minimum to 3.00 minutes maximum.
- There will be a one (1) point
penalty for each minute over or under the
time limit.
- Time starts with the first note
and ends with the last note.
- Music scores DO NOT need to be
presented to the judges
BRASS ENSEMBLES
- An ensemble is defined as 3 to
10 participants.
- There will be a one (1) point
penalty for each person over 10 or under the 3 participants.
- Any combination of horns maybe
used, but no other instruments will be allowed.
- The time limit is 2.0 minutes
minimum to 5.0 minutes maximum.
- There will be a one (1) point
penalty for each minute over or under the time limit.
- Time starts with the first note
and ends with the last note.
- Music scores DO NOT need to be
presented to the judges.
PERCUSSION INDIVIDUALS
- Any individual approved
percussion instrument will be judged.
- The percussionist may play only
one percussion instrument during the
performance.
- The time limit is 1.30 minutes
minimum to 3:00 minutes maximum.
- There will be a one (1) point
penalty for each minute over or under the time
limit.
- Time starts with the first note
and ends with the last note.
- Music scores DO NOT need to be
presented to the judges.
PERCUSSION DUETS

penalty for each participant over 12 or under 3.
- Any combination of approved
percussion instruments maybe used, but no other instruments will
be allowed.
- The time limit is 2:00 minutes
minimum to 5:0.0 minutes maximum.
- There will be a one (1) point
penalty for each minute over or under the time
limit.
- Time starts with the first note
and ends with the last note.
- Music scores DO NOT need to be
presented to the judges.
KEYBOARD INDIVIDUAL
- Any individual approved keyboard
instrument will be judged.
- The keyboardist may play only
one keyboard instrument during the
performance.
- The time limit is 1:30 minutes
minimum to 3:00 minutes maximum.
- There will be a one (1) point
penalty for each minute over or under the time
limit.

- A Mini Corps is defined as a
minimum of 11 to 21 participants.
- If a Drum Major used, he/she is
counted as one of the 21 participants.

penalty for each participant under 11.

percussion instruments may be used.
- The time limit is 5:00 minutes
minimum to 10:00 minutes maximum.
- There will be a one (1) point
penalty for each minute over or under the time
limit.
